5. Manhattan
40% of respondents included in the top ten hits a cocktail created on the eponymous New York island in the 1860s and 1870s. Someone even claims that it was invented by Winston Churchill’s mother in honor of the victory of the representative of the “Bourbon Democrats” in the mayoral elections of the Big Apple. But if bourbon in the composition can replace rye whiskey, then red sweet vermouth, Angostura bitter and cherry are mandatory.

4. Daiquiri
The best-selling rum cocktail, revered by 48% of bartenders. There are only 3 components — lime juice, light rum and sugar, and what a success! The author of the idea is Constantino Rubalcaba Vert, who worked at the beginning of the 19th century in the Havana bar “El Floridita”, known today far beyond Cuba. It was there that Hemingway often visited: a dear guest suffering from diabetes was prepared a mixture without sugar, but with lime, grapefruit and Maraschino liqueur.

3. Whiskey Sour
Exactly half of the bars declared Whiskey Sour from Wisconsin one of the undisputed leaders of the rating. The main ingredient is easy to guess, but the rest is more interesting: traditional bourbon is supplemented with lemon juice, sugar and egg white. Decorate all this splendor with a slice of citrus or a maraschino cherry, served in a glass of “old fashion” with ice.

The cocktail recipe was first mentioned in the book “How to Mix drinks, or a Bon Vivant Companion”, written by the pioneer of the bar industry Jerry Thomas.

2. Negroni
It all started with the fact that Count and part-time General Pascal-Olivier de Negroni, originally from Corsica, showed up at one of the restaurants in Florence and asked the bartender to make an Americano cocktail stronger. Soda was replaced with gin, a slice of lemon was replaced with an orange slice, vermouth and Campari bitter were added, and it was off. The enterprising general even founded a company for the production of a drink, and a century later we offer a new version: an ounce of Bombay Sapphire gin, ¾ ounce of Campari, the same amount of Rossi Martini — and Negroni Dante is ready.

1. Old Fashion
The cocktail that closed our top 15 crowns it, only not with rum, but with good old American whiskey. The classic “Old Fashion” holds the championship in the rating for the 5th year in a row, and 30% of the surveyed bartenders confidently named it the first in popularity. Even the term “cocktail” originally meant just that — a mixture of alcohol (bourbon, rye whiskey or scotch), bitter, sugar and water. So let’s raise old-fashioned glasses! And there will be a reason.
