Longshan Palace
There are many beautiful buildings and attractions in Marseille, but the elegant Longchamp Palace is, without exaggeration, a real masterpiece of architecture. The palace was built in connection with the completion of a global project — the construction of the Marseille canal, which saved the rapidly growing city from water shortages.
The castle of If
“Annoying neighbor” is what the inhabitants of Marseille called the castle of If, they did not like that there was a fortress not far from the city. It was built hastily in 1524-1531 by order of King Francis I of France, the castle was designed to protect against attacks from the sea, and became a gloomy prison.
The Cathedral of Marseille
You can find your cathedral in almost any city in France, but the one in Marseille deserves special attention. It is not so much ancient (the cathedral was built at the end of the 19th century) as unique in its architecture.
Cathedral of Notre Dame de la Garde
The Cathedral of Notre Dame de la Garde is, without exaggeration, the most visited landmark in French Marseille. The Catholic church stands on a high hill, so it can be seen from almost everywhere. The monastery was built in the middle of the 18th century on the site of a former chapel.
