The Dome Cathedral in Riga
On June 25, 1211, Bishop Albrecht von Buxgevden founded a new cathedral in Riga — the Dome. He zealously supervised the construction of the temple, invested considerable funds in it, and hired the best craftsmen. The Riga Dome Cathedral ensemble houses the oldest museum in Latvia — the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation.
The House of the Blackheads
Being an architectural monument of the first third of the 14th century, the house of the Blackheads originally served as a meeting place for various public organizations in Riga. In the 17th century, its main owners were members of the association of foreign merchants, whose patron saint was then considered Saint Maurice.
The historical center of Riga
The historical center of Riga began to be created only at the end of the 19th century after the demolition of the city fortifications. It was then that the first features of the canal embankment began to appear here, which became the border of old Riga and the city center.
Cat house in Riga
There is also a Cat House in Riga, although it has nothing to do with a fairy tale, but it has its own equally interesting legend. A rich merchant built this house in 1910, installed cats on it, turning them backwards to the Guild building, where the Latvian hero did not want to be accepted.
Mezhotnensky Palace
This palace near Bauska is considered one of the most outstanding in Latvia, built in the classical style. It was built over five years, was completed in 1802 and became a gift from Empress Catherine II to Princess von Lieven.
