Last year, the world of travel slowly began to return to normal. But travel has become completely different: instead of popular tourist locations, travelers began to choose secluded places in nature, instead of campsites to stay in “gampings”, instead of hotels to choose “homes”. The EuroNews portal has collected nine new terms that appeared in 2022 (and, it seems, will not disappear in 2023).

Eduvacation: education + vacation
For those who no longer want to just lie on the beach and soak in the pool 24/7, hotels have come up with a new “entertainment” – educational programs about culture, ecological lifestyle and awareness. The new trend is called eduvacation.

Gamping: garden + camping
Not to be confused with “glamping”. The new trend has little in common with “glamorous camping”. “Gamping” is literally “a tent in the garden”.

With the rising cost of living, travelers have become more likely to prefer camping to expensive hotels. But some went further and decided to stay not in organized campsites, but in the gardens of local residents (of course, with their consent). For a very low price, the same conditions were obtained, and even better – no one around. The trend began to gain popularity and formed into a whole phenomenon.

Hometel: home + hotel
Home hotels seems to have a chance to become the main competitors of Airbnb and classic hotels. They are just “in between”: they combine the comfort and convenience of apartments with hotel service. That is, now even in hotels you can feel at home.

The first such thing was tested in London in the room2 hometel. We are waiting for the trend to spread throughout Europe.

Nature positive travel
During the pandemic, people have learned to be alone with themselves. And the main thing is that they liked it. In 2022, more and more travelers began to choose secluded places in nature for trips instead of popular tourist locations. What is important is that now they value their environment, sustainability and ecology.

Hutlife
Another one follows from the previous trend – “Hutlife”. It is about the desire of travelers to stay in huts in the middle of nowhere.

These have already begun to be built in different parts of the world. For example, in Norway they built secluded birdhouse houses with views of the fjords. And in Iceland there is a whole village Volcano Huts Thorsmork, lost in the middle of the mountains. In general, “Hutlife” is when there is only you, your hut and nature around. Well, beauty!

Micromobility
The trend for “Micromobility” is not about short–distance trips, but about using special transport. From electric bicycles to scooters, mobile transport has filled cities around the world. Guides and travel agencies use it now. So travelers can try new things, see interesting things – and all without harm to nature.

Revenge travel
After two or three years in captivity, people finally decided to start riding around the world to the fullest. I don’t want to postpone trips and dreams anymore: if I have an idea, I need to go.

Hence the new concept – revenge travel. But it’s not so much about revenge as about missed opportunities. The fear of being isolated within four walls again makes even those who usually chose to stay at home move. Life is one, the world is big, pandemics happen – we need to use every opportunity.

Silver nomads
It seems that everyone has already heard about digital nomads. Their life looks perfect: why, they ride around the world, meet interesting people, stay in different places, leave whenever they want. But if you don’t have a remote job, how can you travel non-stop?

European pensioners came up with their own way and organized themselves into silver nomads. Over the years, they have accumulated good “airbags”. And in order not to sit at home on them, we decided to enjoy life: travel, explore places, meet people, move where they want and when they want.

Queenagers: queens + teenagers
50 is the new 15? Travel agencies call women aged 45-65 the new travel “queens” of this season. Why? They are free, well–off and ready for adventures – even solo (yes, last year many people chose to go on solo trips around the world).
