People born between September and November are much more likely to live to 100 than those born in March, scientists say.

A study by Leonid Gavrilov and Natalia Gavrilova from the American University of Chicago collected information on 1,574 centenarians born between 1880 and 1895 in the United States. Their data was compared with their 10,855 sisters and brothers, who lived shorter lives, and 1,083 people in the control group.

Scientists have found that the month of birth can increase or decrease the chances that you will live to 100 years old. Thus, most centenarians were born in September, October and November, and the fewest in March, April, May, June and July.

Interestingly, the results are consistent with previous studies, which found that people born at the end of the year from September to December had a longer life expectancy than those born at the end of the year from September to December. who were born during the rest of the months.

There are several suggestions as to why being born at the end of the year improves our chances of living a long life. First, maternal nutrition can affect the development of the baby in the womb, and therefore its life expectancy. Thus, earlier studies showed that children born in autumn and winter had a higher birth weight, which affects early development.

Also, the fact that you were born in autumn means that you will avoid the cold of winter or the heat of summer. Autumn children also avoid infections that are more common in winter, spring and summer, and mothers of such children eat better, which improves their child's health.
