Useful tips

In autumn, nature gives us a lot of different materials to work with.

First of all, these are, of course, multi-colored leaves.

From a huge selection of leaves of different shapes, sizes and shades, you can make beautiful appliques.

It is not necessary to make complex applications to make them beautiful – just use your imagination and learn a few simple secrets.

Here are just a few of the beautiful autumn applications that are very easy to make:

Autumn-themed application: framed leaves

This project is incredibly easy to do. By inserting a leaf into a glazed frame, you decorate the interior (albeit briefly) with autumn colors.

Children's autumn applique: leaves – mosaic

In this craft, you can show all the colors of autumn in one leaf. Not only does it look very beautiful, but it's also very easy to do it – collect the leaves, paint them and put them together in a certain sequence to form a mosaic picture.

Leaf application: hanging leaves

You'll need:

– leaves

– gold paint (spray)

– white marker

– twig

– thread

– tape

– adhesive tape

1. Pick up a few fallen leaves that didn't have time to curl up and place them under a thick book.

2. Take the gold paint and gently apply it to the tips of the leaves. Let the paint dry.

3. Use a white marker to write something pretty on the leaves.

4. Tie several threads of different lengths to a small branch.

5. Cut two identical pieces from the tape, fold each in half. To make loops, attach them with a pin or stud to a wall or blackboard (if in kindergarten or school) about the length of the branch.

6. Hang the branch on the hinges, and glue the leaves to the threads.

Crafts, appliques: autumn vase

Making this home decoration is very simple – collect a few branches with leaves that have not yet fallen off and put them in a vase of water. You can also find dry branches and use transparent tape or a bright rope to attach fallen leaves to them.

Application on the theme “Autumn”: name cards made of leaves

You can make such cards to tell each guest their place at the table or to write a holiday wish and attach it to a gift.

You'll need:

– leaves with tails (peeled, dry, even)

– gold paint (spray or gouache)

– rope

– colored paper

– scissors

– hole punch

– pen

1. After you have harvested the leaves, wash them, dry them and place them under a press (a thick book, for example) to straighten them out.

2. After that, apply spray paint to the leaves – just do this carefully in the open air, with a mask and preferably with special glasses, because the contents of the can are poisonous. You can paint them with gouache.

3. Cut out labels from colored cardboard on which you can write the guest's name or wish (if you decide to give someone a gift) with a pen or marker.

4. Using a thread, attach the labels to the colored leaves.

Application (master class): autumn lanterns

You'll need:

– autumn leaves

– jar

– decoupage glue (mod podge)

– glue brush

– candles

1. Pick the leaves, straighten them under a press and dry them.

2. Apply decoupage glue to the surface of the jar.

3. Glue a layer of leaves to the jar and apply another layer of glue on top.

4. Leave the workpiece to dry overnight.

* If some leaves don't stick completely to the jar, use rubber rings (money bands) to hold them.

5. Place the candle inside the jar.

Done!

How to make an applique from leaves: garland

We have already told you how to color leaves. It is worth noting that these leaves can be used to create a beautiful garland.

The instructions are pretty simple:

1. Collect leaves of different shapes. Wash them, dry them and straighten them under the press.

2. Use acrylic paint to paint them however you like. You can paint them on both sides. After painting, leave to dry.

* You can use washi tape or masking tape to cover certain parts of the sheet and color only part of it (see image). After the paint has dried, the tape can be carefully removed.

3. Use a thread to attach leaves to it. If you wish, you can add beads and other garland decorations.
