Scientists at the University of Stirling have invented a pack of cigarettes that reproduces several recorded messages that urge tobacco users to quit smoking.

When opened, these packs play notes with a warning message about the dangers of smoking.

Records report a link between smoking and fertility, as well as a telephone number.

According to scientists, this invention showed good results during tests. They conducted an experiment that involved women aged 16 to 24 years.

In the near future, scientists plan to begin more extensive tests among men and women aged 16 and over.

Sheila Duffy from Ash Scotland, an anti-smoking charity, believes that such anti-smoking methods can be effective. She also says that we need to continue promoting original ideas that would help people cope with this addiction.

“In the future, we need audio messages on cigarette packages to emphasize that smoking is harmful for people of all ages.”

Alison Cox of Cancer Research UK, a cancer research organization, said her organization sponsored the study to “find out if tobacco industry marketing tools can be used to help those who want to quit smoking.”

The Scottish government has previously expressed support for standardizing tobacco packaging to help people quit smoking.

harm of smoking

According to the World Health Organization data for May 2013, smoking kills up to half of people who smoke.

Each year, 6 million people die from tobacco, including more than 5 million from direct smoking and 600,000 non-smokers due to passive smoking (inhalation of smoke from smokers).

If necessary measures are not taken, the number of deaths from smoking will increase to 8 million by 2030.

Second-hand tobacco smoke

Non-smokers can also suffer from diseases that smokers usually suffer from, and this is due to smoke filling indoor spaces where cigarettes and hookahs are burned.

It is worth noting that tobacco smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals — more than 250 of them are known to be harmful and more than 50 are known to be carcinogens.

– Second-hand smoke can cause cardiovascular and respiratory diseases in adults.

– In infants, this smoke can be fatal.

– Pregnant women who are exposed to second-hand smoke can give birth to low-weight babies.

The consequences of smoking

The smoking epidemic is the biggest public health problem in human history.

About every 6 seconds, one person dies from smoking. About half of smokers are doomed to death due to their bad habit.

In addition, smokers who have already begun to have health problems need expensive treatment, which affects the family budget, especially for people in the lower and middle classes.

In some countries, children from poor families often go to work on tobacco plantations to earn money for their families. They become particularly vulnerable to so-called “green tobacco disease”, which is caused by nicotine that is absorbed through the skin when wet tobacco leaves are processed.

The effect of smoking

Since the beginning of the 20th century, tobacco has killed more than 100 million people.

If the trend continues, tobacco deaths will reach 1 billion in the 21st century.

Smoking

bans Ad ban

Tobacco consumption may decrease with a comprehensive ban on all types of advertising on relevant products.

To date, only 19 countries, representing about 6% of the world's population, have achieved the highest level in terms of bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship.

Tobacco taxes

This is the most effective way to reduce tobacco use, especially among young people and the poor.

According to the latest data, revenues from taxes on tobacco products are 154 times higher than spending on combating smoking.
