Octopus Paul will be followed by two otters living in one of Sochi's aquariums.

They are predicting the results of the 22nd Winter Olympics.

It is worth recalling that the “sea soothsayer” Paul accurately predicted the outcome of all matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which is why he became a worldwide celebrity.

The director of the oceanarium in Sochi confidently said that otters playfully prefer one of the proposed athletes.

According to the head, animals not only choose a particular candidate, but are also happy to show their choice to the audience.

Having noticed such extraordinary abilities of two otters named Ashley and Harry, the oceanarium staff decided to launch a special show featuring these animals, which, by the way, brought by locals after otters were injured by hunters in the forest.

Both rodents of the opposite sex were treated and left by the aquarium staff. Otters are now in great shape and are ready to predict the future results of sports competitions.

It should be noted that earlier the same Ashley and Harry predicted Russia's victory at the recent European Figure Skating Championships.

At the Olympic Games, the now-famous pair of otters especially singled out Yulia Lipnitskaya. Ashley and Harry preferred a young Russian woman, predicting her unconditional victory. And we were right.

Paul the octopus

Oceanarium staff confidently declare that otters will become no less popular among bookmakers than octopus Paul, which was once used for sweepstakes purposes.

The octopus made a mistake only once, incorrectly predicting the ending. Paul chose the German team, but the Spaniards eventually won.

Animal predictors

It is a well-known fact that some animals can predict weather, natural disasters, or other important events. The main thing is to learn to recognize the signals sent by fauna in time and correctly.

Experts know at least 600 species of animals that can act as predictors of weather and air temperature. And, of course, various TV shows in which animals predict the outcome of certain sports, music and other social events have recently become very popular.

Heidi opossum

For example, inspired by the success of octopus Paul, employees of one of the zoos in Leipzig decided to glorify their pet, a female opossum named Heidi.

In early 2011, Heidi unmistakably named two Oscar winners. In one of ABC's television shows, the “soothsayer” was offered several photos of actors nominated for a film award.

Heidi chose Natalie Portman and Colin Firth. In the end, indeed, both won their Oscar for Best Actress and Actor in Black Swan and The King's Speech! (“The King's Speech”).

However, Heidi was wrong once. When choosing the best film, she pointed to 127 Hours, and won the film “The King Speaks!”.

The famous female opossum died in the fall of 2011 at the age of three and a half.

In the summer of the same year, another “predictor”, the elephant Nelly, a resident of one of the national reserves, appeared in Germany.

The animal predicted the outcome of all matches at the Women's World Football Championship. Nelly unmistakably determined the defeat of the Germans in the quarterfinal match against Japan.

The elephant chose the winner as follows: two goals were placed in front of the animal, into one of which Nelly rolled the ball. The loser was the country against which the elephant scored a goal.

New Zealand can brag about its “soothsayer”. In the fall of 2011, a sheep named Sonny Wool “predicted” her country's rugby team an unconditional victory in the final of the World Cup.

Throughout the tournament, the animal invariably chose the New Zealand flag, thereby predicting victory for its country. Owner Sonny Wool is convinced that it was thanks to his pet that New Zealand managed to beat all rivals.

And the outcome of the matches of the European Football Championship in Ukraine was predicted by two animals at the same time: a boar named Funtik and a ferret Fred.

Funtik “wondered” on corn sticks, but Fred preferred one of the beef plates and the flags of the two competing countries.
